Song choice

 I have chosen the song Hung Up by Madonna because it is such an iconic song that has been adopted by the gay community. In this song Madonna is waiting for a guy to call her as the phrase ‘time goes by so slowly’ shows that she has been waiting for a long time or could mean that it actually hasn’t been that long. The music is based off of the song ‘Gimme! Gimme! Gimmie!’ by Abba. Hung Up has been one of Maddona most successful songs with a 8.7 million copies being sold world wide. It was top of the charts in 41 countries it was also preformed in London at the children in need concert in 2006.

I have looked at three other of Madonnas songs which are my favourite; Vogue, Like a virgin and Material girl. These are my favourite because Vogue is such a classic song and it has such a good simple music video. Like a virgin really simple to it the camera follows Madonna around Venice and then in true madonna fashion she has a lion appear. Her outfit is also symbolism as she is wearing white and talking about a virgin because white resembles purity. Then Material girl is so simple as they use one main scene space throughout the video where Madonna is surrounded by georgus men. The music videos are so simple because the songs are so classic that she doesn't need a fancy big extravagant music video.

One main character -  school girl. The inspiration for my character to be a young teenage girl comes from the age of the audience as it is 16-25 year olds having a seven teen year old girl as the main focus would interest the intended audience. I am aiming to get the character to look as stereotypical as I can. Especially as this particular teenager is struggling with a drug addiction, so she should have bags under her eyes, she should be constantly fidgeting, she should be looking under dressed and really run down. The genre of that our music video has to fit into is protest. This means that it has to be a song that has a message to do with protesting against something or someone. The history of the genre protest –  Protest music has been around for centuries when it became so popular due to people being able to express there feelings with a catchy song or in a way that would get people of higher authority attention. Protest songs are usually written as part of a movement for political or cultural reasons but this can vary. The broadness of the genre gives song writers political freedom which is a way to get there message or point into peoples heads. Songs can change from being quiet and haunting to someone screaming down a microphone about death but these are all accepted as protest songs.  The first American protest songs were created due to war and slavery to create awareness for the huge issues that many people were not aware about at the time.
